A1. KK exists so that potential employers can find out who's there for free. Traditional job websites invite you to post your CV with them where they hide it from general view and charge potential employers hundreds of pounds to view it. Post your CV on KK and it's available for anyone who's looking for people with your skill set to view for free.
KK allows you to promote your skills to the whole Internet community. If you fancy switching your life as an electrician in Sidcup for Sydney then post your CV on KK and potential employers in Australia can see that you're available and willing to work in Sydney. When you post your CV you can select the geographic region(s) in which you are willing to take employment.
You can publicise yourself by letting people know when you are available, how to contact you and even allow your CV or resume to be viewed or downloaded.
A2. For most users, the KK service that helps you advertise your skills is FREE (you get one active door and one substitute door for nothing)! If you want to add further doors, the cost of each additional door is 20 USD (about 10 GBP) for a year’s subscription.
A3. No. KK will not endeavour to find you employment and does not contact any employers, agencies or other intermediaries on your behalf. KK allows you to promote your skills and availability for work when you subscribe to the KK service. Potential employers and agencies use the KK site to find people with your skills. If you think of the site as a worldwide billboard for you and your skill set then you've got the right idea.
A4. No. KK does not contact employers on your behalf.
A5. Most employers use preferred supplier lists of agencies. You may be signed on with a number of agencies but you cannot be sure that any of the agencies are on preferred suppliers' lists.
When an agency is asked to forward potential candidates for a job role they will work through the list of people they have on their company database, calling each potential candidate in turn. A large percentage of these calls will be fruitless as the role will not be in a geographic region in which the candidate wishes to work or they will be unavailable in the time frame required.
Alternatively, post your CV on KK showing where you're willing to work and when you're available. You can update your preferred location and availability whenever you want and the updates are available immediately to ALL potential employers and agencies.
Once the staff at an agency have exhausted their own local company database of appropriate CVs they're left with paying to access the CV databases of well known Job Sites.
Alternatively, agencies can simply visit KK for free where they can see at a glance who's available in the region and when they are available.
An agency will perform a mass download of CVs periodically. Your CV may be bang up to date on a Job Site, but how old is the version in the hands of the agent? Those red hot skills you've picked up over the last six months may not be on that CV and you'll be passed over for a key role.
Alternatively, because KK is free to access, the CV the agency has will be as up to date as you want it to be.
Post your CV on KK and you're on the 'books' of every agency in every specialist field in the world, plus you can show when you're available and the geographic area in which you are looking for work. You can even display references from previous employers.
You won't be fielding calls for roles in Brussels when you want to work in 20 mile radius of Beconsfield, and you won't get calls from agencies for roles that start next week when your tied up for the next six months.
A6. No. If you get a new job or contract because an employer or agency finds you by using the KK service we don't charge you or the employer a thing no matter how large or small the job.
A7. That's up to you! You can change your account settings to display an anonymous ID, hide your CV, or hide your availability, or simply not display anything at all!
A8. You decide whether to allow your CV to be downloaded, display your availability date or name. Remember that any details in your CV will be available to be viewed by anyone if you decide to allow your CV to be displayed. You should remove your personal phone numbers, address and any other personal information you do not want to be in the public domain before you upload your CV to KK.
A9. You may not want your current colleagues to know that you're looking to move on or you may want to conceal your identity for another reason. With KK you have the option of being a number rather than a name! You can publish a CV on the KK website which contains no personal data. If a potential employer wants to contact you they'll mail your KK membership number and we'll forward their mail to you. It's then up to you if you want to take matters further. What could be simpler?
A10. We thought it would be a good idea if employers and agencies recognised the benefit of KK (after all they don't pay for the Who's There service). The Goodwill page lists those employers and agencies who have confirmed that they will recompense their new employee (for showing initiative) by taking them out for a drink or a meal! Of course we can't enforce this or police this but we just thought it would be a nice gesture by the employers (plus it's free advertising for them)! Maybe there is such a thing as a free lunch after all?
A11. A few clicks of your mouse... KK doesn't charge employers or agencies to find people using our service.
A12. Yes. Employers or agencies wishing to advertise on the KK website must register first and can then purchase blocks of 10 KK doors (space on our website). You pay an annual subscription (200 USD) per block and may change the advertisement on each door whenever you wish for the duration of the subscription. You can also advertise your company on the Goodwill page (for free). See another FAQ on the Goodwill page.
A13. Yes. Please email your job title to whosthere@knokknok.com. We'll review it to see where it fits within our overall job database structure and add it if appropriate.
A14. Please email the details of this misrepresentation to misrepresentation@knokknok.com. We take all kinds of fraud very seriously and will pass the details on to the relevant authorities as appropriate.
A15. Yes. Use the My References section in your profile to request references and also to display or delete them.
A16. A door is a container for your personal advertising and can contain your details such as name and phone number, your CV, contact email details and references. Each subscription shows the active door on the left hand side and a substitute door on the right hand side. A substitute door is not visible to other users of the KK website. You can swap the active door with the substitute door at any time.
A17. Employers and agencies can use doors to advertise their vacancies. The door contains information about the job vacancy such as the start date, the role type, job reference and a detailed job description. The door contents can be updated any time by the employer/agency.
